Finally, my first review! I have chosen this book, because it's so unique and i have never read anything like this before.

It's about a boy named Jacob. He has a very good
band with his grandfather, who used to tell him stories about children with
strange abilities, but when Jacob grows older, he doesn't believe these stories
anymore. One day, granddad calls Jacob in total despair. Jacob goes to his
house to check if everything is ok. He finds him in the garden, dead. A creepy
monster is watching them from the darkness, but it runs away.
Jacob
decides to go to Wales,
to learn more about his grandfather's past. There he discovers an old orphanage.
He goes in and finds a box full with old photos. Then he hearts some strange
noises. There are a few kids outside. Jacob follows them, but the kids find out
and a girl threatens him in a tunnel. Eventually they take him to the
orphanage. And guess what, the date appears to be 3 September 1940 (they have
time travelled, isn't that amazing?). The girl, named Emma, brings Jacob to
miss Peregrine. She tells Jacob that she has known his granddad and she also
tells about the children with unnatural abilities (so apparently they do
exist). Together they go on an incredible adventure and discover some creepy
things.
What makes
this book amazing?
1. There
are creepy, old pictures in the book and they go along so well with the story. The
photos make it very realistic, even if it's a high fantasy book.
2. There
are monsters in the book that gave me the chills. They look like this.
3. The kids
have really unique abilities, such as a girl who is lighter than air, a boy who
has many bees in his stomach, a girl with an extra mouth in the back of her
head and many more.
4. There
are a lot of characters in the book and they are all amazing. Each has a very
unique persona and you will love and care about them for ever, even when you
have finished the book.
5. The
author uses awesome words, like ymbrine (someone who can change into a bird), a
hollow (a scary creature) and a wight (when a hollow eats enough peculiars, it
turns into a wight).
6. The
layout of the book itself provides an amazing reading experience. It's even
fun to just look at the book.
7. Ransoms
writing style is very easy: short sentences and simple vocabulary. So it's a
quick read.
8. There is
some history in it, but it's absolutely not boring.
9. And yes,
there is also romance in the book. Although, it's only some kissing. But I
liked it, that the book wasn't all about love.
10. The
whole book is a mystery. It's amazing watching everything unravel en become
clear to Jacob as well as myself. The story is not predictable, so you will be
blown away a couple of times.
11. The
ending is a cliffhanger, so you must read the second book in the series, which
is as good as the first.
12. This
book will be made into a movie, so you can relive the whole story again.
13. This
book is very peculiar, but in a good way.
14. And
last, it's NOT a children's book. Teens as well as adults will love this book.
